Welcome to part 3 of our Boudoir Photography Prop Ideas bog series. Deciding on props for your boudoir session can be difficult and knowing how to use them even more difficult. That’s where your photographer comes into play. They should be able to talk you through the best options for props and what makes the most sense for your specific session.
The props should complement you and your session and the overall theme of the shoot. The props are there to add to the picture, not distract or take away from.
Complementing You In The Pictures
The props you choose should complement you and your body type in your images. They should help to hide any insecurities and enhance any features you want to accentuate.
Think about hobbies or professions. This is a great place to start. A painter has brushes and paint that are awesome accessories. Nurses and doctors, stethoscopes and of course, the white coat.
The goal of adding props is to help you feel more comfortable and confident in your session.
What To Do With Props
Props can help guide the viewer's eye through your image and art work. Props at different levels add layers to the photos. Remember, whatever props you choose should enhance your images, not be the focus. You are the focus of your images. Make sure that the props you use compliment you in the image.
Less is More
Avoid having too many props and creating clutter in your images. Having too many props can take away from your subject and the focal point the prop, not the beautiful lady in the image. Your props should contribute to a cohesive, beautiful look in the images, not take away from it. Keeping it simple can be better than over doing it.
