She Didn't Feel Like the "Boudoir Type." Her Session Changed What That Even Means.

HER STORY

Suzanne was intrigued.

The idea of a boudoir session sounded fun — a different way to treat herself. Something she'd never done before. She signed up excited.

Then the reality of it set in.

She started browsing lingerie. Lace. Silk. Nothing felt right. Nothing felt like her. Suzanne is someone who dresses simply, casually, comfortably. The more she tried to picture herself in something she'd never wear in real life, the more the whole thing started to feel like a costume — and not in a good way.

She almost talked herself out of it.

Then she had a realization that changed everything.

BEFORE THE SESSION

How were you feeling before your session?

Honestly, as the time approached, I started having second thoughts. Looking up lingerie didn't feel like me at all. I dress very casually and simply in my everyday life, so trying to force that look felt fake.

What was the biggest thing you were nervous about?

I was definitely most nervous about what I would wear and finding pieces that felt right for me. Once I realized the pictures were for me, deciding to wear my normal bra and underwear made me feel instantly at ease.

"Once I realized the pictures were for me — I felt instantly at ease."

That moment — the permission to simply be herself — is what the whole session became about.

DURING THE SESSION

What surprised you most during the experience?

How empowering it felt. And how much fun it was to see yourself through the lens of someone else in this intimate way.

There is something remarkable that happens when a woman stops performing and starts simply existing in front of the camera. The tension leaves. The images change. What comes through is real.

SEEING HER IMAGES

How did you feel when you saw your images for the first time?

I was so excited about how they turned out! I felt sexy just being me — without having to dress up or wear something I didn't feel comfortable in.

"I felt sexy just being me."

HER WORDS TO YOU

What would you say to a woman who's on the fence?

If you are on the fence, you should absolutely try it. Just be yourself. It is so much fun to see yourself through the lens of someone else in this intimate way.

What does "confidence" mean to you now?

Confidence to me is the willingness to show up exactly as yourself.

A NOTE FROM BEHIND THE LENS

Suzanne's session quietly dismantles one of the biggest myths about boudoir photography: that there is a "type" of woman it's for.

There isn't. There is only you — whatever you wear, whatever you look like, wherever you are in your life. The session meets you there.

You don't have to become someone else to be beautiful in front of the camera. In fact, the most stunning images almost always come from the women who stopped trying to be anyone other than themselves. I've captured so many krinkle nose smiling "sexy" pictures that wouldn't be your normal boudoir images, but women can't help but see how much it captures the real them.

Suzanne knew that by the end. You will too.
