This week on the blog, we're introducing you to Janice, a 68 year old retired nurse who loves to travel! In fact, when Jodi first talked with her, she was just getting back from Puerto Rico!
START BY TELLING ME WHO YOU ARE? WHERE ARE YOU FROM? GIVE ME A SHORT BIO OF YOU AND YOUR LIFE
I was born in Danury, Connecticut. Grew up in Lancaster, PA. Went to college in Virginia. and stayed there for 8 years working a in hospital. Moved back to Lancaster and worked in Cardiology, LGH/THG until retirement. I was widowed at 38 yrs old with 2 small children. My husband of 11 years, died of cancer, so learned a lot being a "mom and dad" for my 2 boys and working fulltime. Four years later, I was diagnosed with Non Hodgkin's lymphoma. Went through chemo, radiation, and surgery over a period of 9 months. I lost ALL my hair, all over my body. No eyebrows, eyelashes, etc. A difficult time with self esteem, especially since I did not have spouse to support me. I also was involved in multiple auto accidents where I was rear-ended, and had multiple neck surgeries. But by the Grace of God, " I'M STILL KICKING! I remarried and have a very supportive husband. I currently volunteer with CASA, also at WSMC 2days/mo and at Helping Hands ,as needed.
WHAT IS THE BEST THING ABOUT BEING YOUR AGE?
I can do whatever I want!!
WHAT IS YOUR GREATEST ACHIEVEMENT?
Raising my 2 boys on my on. Being cancer free for 26 yrs!!
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE THING THAT YOU HAVE CHECKED OFF YOUR BUCKET LIST?
Visiting Hawaii and Alaska
WHAT TRAIT ARE YOU MOST PROUD OF?
Focused, empathic, Living by the statement, that Nobody can make me happy, that's my responsibility!!
